Say “NO” to child abuse

Chennai-based meme creators, Chennai Memes, have launched an online campaign to combat child p0rn0graphy, requesting web users to report such sites to the cyber police.

A member of the group recently stumbled upon several Facebook pages and Whatsapp groups that upload and circulate pictures of young girls, as well as p0rn0graphic material involving children.

The member of the group who came across these pages while browsing took screenshots and reported them to the cybercrime cell at the office of the assistant commissioner of police in Veppery.

This is only the case of Chennai but these types of pages spread all over India ….at every platform including Instagram, KiK, Facebook, Telegram. Many pages take the screenshot of young girls and post it publicly and say to the people to comment on that pic for just fun.

Some children and women gave their pics by themselves for shoutouts to gain some likes and followers on the post ……This is also a big reason why the pages do this crime without any fear.

If we talk from a legal perspective

According to Indian Law

Information Technology Act, 2000

Cyber P0rn0graphy is neither banned nor legalized under the IT Act, 2000. The IT Act prohibits the production and distribution of cyber p0rno0graphy but does not prohibit the viewing or downloading of pornographic content if it is not child p0rn0graphy.

Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 makes the following acts punishable with imprisonment up to 3 years and a fine up to Rs 5 lakhs. Section 67A of the Information Technology Act makes publication, transmission, and causing to be transmitted and published any material containing sexually explicit act or conduct punishable with imprisonment up to 5 years and a fine up to Rs 10 lakh.

Child p0rn0graphy

Section 67B of the IT Act, 2000 makes publishing, transmitting, viewing, or downloading child pornography illegal. According to Section 67B, any person who has not attained the age of 18 years is a child.

Sections that define p0rn0graphy

Section 292 of IPC prohibits the sale of obscene material. Section 292(1) explains the meaning of “obscenity” and Section 292(2) explains the punishment for sale, distribution, etc. of obscene materials.

Indecent Representation of Women’s Act, 1986

It seeks to prohibit the representation of women or any part of her body in an indecent form provided that such representation will injure public morality or morals.

POCSO Act, 2012

It was specifically enacted to prevent children from sexu@l offenses. The act protects children from sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography. The act aims to protect the interests and well-being of the children.

For the purpose of the act, any person who has not attained the age of 18 years is a child. The Act is gender-neutral.

Instagram Policy of Child abuse

Posting, Sharing, or downloading images of child sexu@l abuse for any reason may constitute a crime. We report all child p0rn0graphy to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

How Peoples Bypass these types of policy

Instagram, Facebook, and other several companies use bots to catch P0rn0graphic content on their platforms, so criminals make new paths to spread their content. They make P0rn0graphic memes, Wrotes bad text on the pics of actresses. By doing such types of tricks they don't violate policy and also spread their bad content on the internet.
